Manipur leaders greet on Ningol Chakkouba


Imphal: Manipur governor La Ganeshan and chief minister N.Biren Singh have greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Ningol Chakouba.

Ningol Chakkouba rejuvenates family ties and strengthens the bonds of love and affection between brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters and fathers and daughters, helping in promotion of unity and integrity in the society, La Ganeshan said in his greetings.

It is a very happy and significant occasion on which the married women come to their parental houses along with their children and enjoy sumptuous feast and receive Dakshina or gills as a token of love and affection. “Let us hope that the festival will be celebrated in its true spirit with the involvement of different communities in the State to bring peace, prosperity and peaceful co-existence amongst all,” he said.

Ningol Chakkoub is one of the biggest festivals of Manipur which celebrate the unbreakable bond of love between brother and sister and which reinforce the parental care and affection for married daughters. Celebration of Ningol Chakouba has now been extended to other communities, States and countries as well though it was primarily a festival of Meitel community in the beginning. The festival also promotes the feeling of peaceful co-existence and harmonious living by reaffirming our faith in the traditional values of love and protection, Biren said.
