Imphal: Imphal West district police seized a total of 3,602 dices (Lagao) from different areas of the district during the Diwali and Ningol Chakouba festivals season.
Sub-inspector B. Amarjit Sharma of Imphal West Police commando seized highest number of dices of 65 sets (390 dices). Imphal Police station seized highest among the police stations of the district with 90 sets (540 dices).
The dices were seized from different areas of Imphal West districts. Patsoi Police station followed Imphal West Police with 85 sets (500 dices) and Wangoi police station was in the third position seizing 62 sets (372 dices).
Police stations of Lamphel, Singjamei, Mayang Imphal, Lamsang, Sekmai and Women police station also seized a number of dices.
Nine police stations of the district seized a total of 337 sets (2,022 dices).
Other than dices seized by 9 police stations, Imphal West commando unit also seized a total of 1,508 dices along with 83 Laiyums ( gambling mat).
Next to Amarjit sub-inspector L. Shitaljit Singh seized 170 dices and jemandar A. Sadananda seized 25 sets (150 dices).
Imphal West superintendent of police S. Ibomcha told reporters at Imphal Police station that district police had already warned the people not to play dice (Lagao) as it could spread Covid-19, while gambling is also illegal.
The first three Police stations and police personnel of highest number of seizure of dice will be awarded cash award of Rs 10,000; Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively along with appreciation letters, he added.
The district police also seized 61 modified exhaust silencers which are mostly fitted at motorcycles.
The seizures were destroyed at Imphal police station campus in front of media with road rollers.
