4.34 acres of paddy burnt down


Imphal: Over 4.34 acres of unthreshed paddy piled at the paddy fields located near National Sports University, Imphal West were burnt down by unknown miscreants on Wednesday.

The incident was occurred at about 4.30 am.

Local MLA, Heikham Dingo warned that those involved during the act will be find out and punish them.

The unthreshed paddy belongs to Taorem Shyam Sunder Singh, 60, son of late T Tomal of Senjam Khunou; Irungbam Yaiskul, 58, son of late I Jugindro Singh of Senjam Khunou; Laishram Yajanta Singh, 40, son of L Ibotombi Singh of Senjam Khunou and Yumnam Biyananda Singh, 25, son of Y Ingobi Singh of Phumlou Awang Leikai.

In connection to the incident a case has been registered at Sekmai police station.

Local MLA, H Dingo rushed to the spot. He said the accused persons involved during the act will not be spared and will find out immediately and they shall be punished as per law. He also informed DC, Imphal West to take necessary steps regarding the incident.

He said state government will take necessary steps to provide necessary assistance to the paddy owners.

One of the paddy owner, Biyananda said in his life he had no enmity with any of the neighbour paddy owners. He has been working hard to get some paddy so that he could feed his family members while his wife is blind.

When a team of fire brigade rushed to the spot most of the unthreshed paddy were burnt.
