Imphal:Manipur Wushu players who took part in 20th Jr. National Wushu (Boys/Girls) Championship held at Lovely Professional University, Punjab during 20-25 were felicitated, here on Friday.
Manipur got the Team Champion title by winning 25-Gold, 19-Silver and 15-Bronz medals in the championship.
The felicitation ceremony was organised by IPSA.
Education minister S. Rajen said sport players of the state has popularised the state at the national and international arenas. Manipur is considered as sports house of India. The state has considerably produced many talented players. They have brought laurels of the state and the nation as well. “We can be proud of our sport stars,” he added.
The government has initiated many welfare schemes for Manipur sportspersons. Many successful players have been inducted to suitable post in the state government departments. M.C. Mary Kom has been nominated to Rajya Sabha as an honour to her feat in the field of sport. Many more example may be cited, he said.
There are reports of disagreements between members of sports organisations of the state. This is an unfortunate thing and must be stopped. Understanding amongst the office bearers and members of sport associations should be built up. They should work in the interest of the players, he added.
Rajen maintained that players should not get overwhelmed just after winning a medal. Instead they should put more and more efforts deliberately with a strong determination. The nation reserves rooms for the successful players of the state, the minister said.
President, IPSA T. Birjit among others attended the occasion.
