Imphal: Nephew of former chief minister and opposition leader Okram Ibobi Singh has been appointed as advisor to chief minister N. Biren Singh.
A notification issued by chief secretary and secretary (cabinet), Rajesh Kumar on Friday notified that chief minister N. Biren is pleased to appoint former social welfare minister Okram Henry Singh as advisor to chief minister.
The notification shall be made effective immediately from Friday.
Okram Henry Singh was elected as MLA from Wangkhei Wssembly Constituency on Indian National Congress seat during in 2017 election. During the Manipur vote of confidence, he was one of the eight MLAs who had skipped the Assembly proceedings defying the party whip for the trust vote.
Henry resigned from Congress and later joined Bharatiya Janata Party. After he joined BJP, Biren led government inducted him as state social welfare minister. In the recent verdict of High Court of Manipur, the court declared his election result null and void.
Okram Henry is the nephew of former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh who is also the opposition leader in Manipur.
