Highway truck driver rescued from suspected NSCN (I-M)


Imphal: A team of Manipur Police special commando unit rescued one goods truck driver who was detained and physically assaulted by suspected NSCN (I-M) at Meryland Part-5 along Imphal-Jiribam highway on Tuesday.

The driver was identified as one Nongyaimayum Firoz Khan, 39, son of N. Abdul Kalam from Lilong Turel Ahanbi Boroi Makhong, Thoubal district.

The special commando team on official duty came across a goods truck parked on the roadside along the national highway at Merryland part-5 which falls under the jurisdiction of Noney police station. When the commando personnel stop their vehicle and met the assistant driver of the said truck, they were told that the driver has been kidnapped by some unknown miscreants suspected to be NSCN (I-M) over illegal tax issue, police said.

The special commando team conducted cordon and search operation in the surrounding area instantly.

During the operation the police team found Firoz in a bush. Taking the advantage of dense forest, the miscreants had escaped from the area, it added.

Firoz revealed that two persons suspected to be NSCN I(-M), stopped their vehicle and asked them to pay tax. When he told them that he did not have enough money for the tax he was physically assaulted with bamboo and tried to kidnap him.
