ADC Bill can be discussed for good of all, says Letpao

Imphal: Autonomous District Council (ADC) Bill issue can be minutely discussed on the floor of the House so as not to harm any community in the state.

There should be ‘omissions and commissions’ to this bill so that an amicable bill can be presented in the Assembly floor, the minister said.

The minister was speaking during the closing ceremony of 35th Annual Sports Meet held at Aimol Satu village, Tengnoupal district on Saturday.

Any distrust and enmity between the valley people and hill people should not be built up, he added.

Letpao who is also a member of the Hill Area Committee (HAC) of the draft bill “The Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021” said the bill should be constituted under rules and regulations of Indian Constitution and no person can object it.

He has been taking a pivotal role in bringing a good resolution to this issue, and the present chief minister (N. BirenSingh) is also in favour of bestowing some powers to the District Council, he said.

He said development can be achieved only through healthy competition. Animosity and wars should be waged not against each other, but against diseases and other ills of the society, he added.

Letpao said he has already started taking up developmental works in various area of Tengnoupal district. A person who comes out to be public leader or representative should not always wait till election time to take up development works in their areas.
