Letpao announces to contest in Tengoupal Assembly Constituency


Imphal: Youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip has announced that he will be contesting from Tengnoupal district against seating MLA D Korungthang instead of Chandel district.

Letpao made the announcement on Saturday during the closing ceremony of 5 days 35th annual sports meet held at Aimol Satu village, Tengnoupal district.

The programme was organised by Aimol Students’ Union, Manipur.

In 2017 state Legislative Assembly election, Letpao said, he was elected from 41-Chandel Assembly Constituency on National People’s Party (NPP) ticket. However, in the upcoming state Legislative Assembly election he will be contesting in 42-Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency. There is possibility that he will be contesting from a different political party, he added.

Though it is yet to be announced officially that he will be contesting in Tengnoupal he has been continuing to take up developmental works for the Constituency, Letpao said.

He said the present political party (NPP) has yet to be announced for party tickets of the intending candidates, he cannot assured that from which party he will be contesting the upcoming election.

In the coming election he will be contesting from a big national political party, he added.
