Deceased escort’s family demands Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia, seeks investigation


Imphal: The escort of MLA Yamthong Haokip who had been treating at Raj Medicity hospital, Imphal succumbed to his head injury on Friday at the hospital.

In connection with the incident family members and locals of the deceased met government officials at Chief Minister’s secretariat, Babupara, Imphal on Saturday and placed several demands.

The deceased escort Yumnam Sanjit Singh, 38, of Tendongyang Maning Leikai presently staying at Yairipok Top Chingtha, Imphal East was admitted at Raj Medicity on December 5 after an incident occurred at the residence of the MLA at Saikul.

Family members and locals along with near ones of Sanjit on Saturday went to meet chief minister N. Biren Singh.

Iboshyam, one of the person who went to meet the chief minster said they failed to meet the chief minister but they met with special secretary, department of personnel, Ningthoujam Geoffrey.

Iboshyam placed their demands verbally to Geoffrey to provide appropriate government job to one of the family members of the deceased.

They demanded to give a sum of Rs 10 lakh as ex-gratia and to bear all the hospital expenses where the deceased was given treatment.

While conducting post mortem representative of the deceased escort should be allowed to witness. The post mortem should e conducted along with video coverage in presence of a magistrate they demanded.

Iboshyam said a written memorandum will be submitted after a Joint Action Committee is formed.

The cause of Sanjit’s death is suspicious. Necessary investigation should be taken up at the earliest, he added.

Geoffrey has assured to start necessary steps to start the process of post mortem. A case has been registered at Saikul police station, he said.
