Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Sunday said demonstrating protest by some politicians from Shillong to repeal Armed Forces (Special Power) Act in order to get political mileage need to be avoided.
Biren was speaking during the Nupi Lal observation held at Nupi Lal Complex, here.
Biren said in the state there are different underground organisations under Suspension of Operation and some of them do not want to take up peace talk. Amid this scenario people are demanding to repeal AFSPA, he added.
AFSPA has already been repealed from seven Assembly segments of the state and law and order in the valley area has been much better as compared to the period before four and half years, Biren said.
He said the government has been pressing the Centre to repeal AFSPA from the state and it is still continuing.
He said he learns from hear say that the recent huge recovery of arms and ammunition from Thoubal district was the good achievement from police. There might be arms and ammunitions that are yet to be detected, he added.
There are politicians who are allied with some undergrounds organisations but cannot be identified yet. Those politicians used those self-styled under ground outfits to threaten rival politicians, he said.
Biren said the government will not tolerate who is anti-national even among the politicians. Politics and anti-social activities cannot go together. If they want to continue with such activities they can join militant organisations, he added.
Such kind of politics was practiced before four and half years but it cannot be continued, Biren said.
