Heroin worth Rs 1.46 crore seized, one arrested

Imphal: Narcotics cell, Imphal East Police seized heroin powder worth about Rs 1,46,46,000 and arrested one drug peddler on Sunday.
The drug was found during frisking and checking at Tribal Market, New Checkon in Imphal East.
The peddler was identified as one Kamlalmuan Vaiphei, 36, son of late Zamkhongul Vaiphei of M Molhoi Village, Churachandpur district.
Three teams assisted by Youth Athletic Development Association under the supervision of superintendent of police, Imphal East conducted random frisking and checking in an around Tribal Market, New Checkon area.
During the police activity one unknown person (Kamlalmuan) hanging a black polythene bag was seen coming on foot from Tribal Market towards the straight road of Chassad Avenue. On seeing the team the man tried to escape however the team managed to detain him.
In the black polythene bag, 47 cases of suspected Heroin powder weighing about 733 without soap cases were detected, police said. It said the seized Heroin powder would cost around Rs 1,46,46,000 in international market value.
Kamlalmuan was arrested in presence of an executive magistrate and witnesses. He along with the seizure were handed over to Porompat Police station for further necessary action.
