Imphal: Manipur fishery minister S. Rajen Singh has distributed Pradhan Mantri Matsyas Sampada Yojana, PMMSY, benefits to 1503 fish farmers of Manipur through PFMS, on Wednesday.
The minister was speaking to media during the distribution function held at the conference hall of the minister at old secretariat, Imphal.
Rajen said PMMSY beneficiaries have been selected through proper screening at the district and state level.
“This is the first time that the beneficiaries receive their benefits directly through Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme,” he added.
The department of fishery has focused for carrying out blue revolution successfully. Production of self dependent fish products in the state is given priority. Local and indigenous fishes will also be produced sufficiently in the coming years, he said.
Loktak Livelihood Mission has been launched in order to encourage the fish farmers residing around Loktak lake. Loktak is being their livelihood. Areas under the Fishery Department have been leased out to those interested fish farmers so to provide income to the farmers and revenue to the government in return, he added.
Sareng (Wallago attu) which has local importance will be produced in plenty from the next year. Indigenous fishes will also be produced. Research in this regard is being carried on regarding Elisha fish for production in the state. Biofloc Fish Farming has been introduced in the state. Fish farmers have been trained, he said.
