Harimati Dance and Music Centre elaborates foundation day

Imphal: The 49th foundation ceremony of Harimati Dance and Music Centre, Porompat, Imphal East was celebrated on Friday with the inauguration of 3 days celebration at the premises of the centre as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ of 75th years of India’s Independence.
To save the ethnic arts and culture of Manipur, people should first promote the cultural attire instead of imitating others, MLA Nahakpam Indrajit Singh.
He said the cultural attire of Manipur is one of the most unique attires across the country and people should respect and promote them. In some of the cultural occasion, even the artiste or traditional musician started to fuse with other culture during their performance, he added.
Manipur is known to the world for its unique arts and culture and people should stop imitating other’s attire or culture as it could bring a huge negative impact to arts and culture of Manipur, he said.
The traditional Manipuri martial arts, arts and culture should be preserved and it is needed to stop the changing trends for future, he added.
Secretary of the institute, N. Harimati Devi said since the institute was established many students of different art forms have been produced including lecturer. As long as the centre runs, she said, she ill not stop producing quality students in order to promote the traditional arts and culture of Manipur.
Pradhan, Top Naoriya Gram Panchayat, Mangsatabam Dinachanra alias Loken and president of the institute, N.Manishyam Singh also attended the programme as guest of honour and president respectively.
