Imphal: Manipur youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip, who was elected on National People’s Party (NPP) ticket, has joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a ceremony held at New Delhi on Wednesday in presence of Union environment minister Bhupendra Yadav and BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra.
“I joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaving NPP, because, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, development can be brought in the north eastern state including Manipur,” Letpao said.
He was speaking during the joining ceremony held at the BJP headquarte.
He told reporters that Manipur do not have much resources and to bring development in the state it is needed to strengthen the BJP party.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah give priority to development of Manipur. A north east cell was established in order to protect north eastern people from being bullied in the mainland India, he added.
Letpao Haokip was elected on NPP ticket from 41-Chandel Assembly Constituency in 2017. He is also one of the leaders of NPP.
In the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2022 he will be contesting from 41-Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency against the seating MLA D Korungthang.
