Biren lays foundation stone for Haj house


Imphal: Chief minister N. Biren Singh on Friday laid the foundation stone for Manipur State Haj House at Usoipokpi, Lilong, in Thoubal district.

Biren recalled what he had announced earlier in the year 2018 the importance for construction of Haj House in Manipur. The Centre would be multi utility for Muslim communities, providing accommodation and imparting training for the Haj Pilgrimage.

He said he will instruct the implementing agency to complete the Haj House within one year. The government is gearing up for completion of Ima market at Lilong which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister when he visited Manipur on January 4, 2022.

Decency must be maintained by one and all while using social media, abstain from uploading comments which might hurt others morality and image. Government has set up Cyber Crime Special Unit and those who are found misusing social media will be booked promptly under the law, he added.

Government has taken a decision for payment of Rs 30,000 per month as honorarium to the chairman, Haj Committee. The Cabinet will also take up for discussion of payment of 7th pay to WAKF board staff, Minority Commission staff and reservation in higher education. Government is considering to impart skill development training in Meitei-Pangal areas, he said.

The chief minister urged the youth to wake up and stand against drugs and make Lilong a totally drug free area. He also mooted for village wise/house wise survey to identify economically backward families so that government may be able to extend need based necessary support in uplifting those underprivileged. He appealed to the gathering to live together for a developed and prosperous society.

The Haj House will be constructed under the scheme for Special Assistance to State for Capital Expenditure during 2021-22 with a project cost of Rs 10.00 crore.

The land for construction of Haj House was donated by Hafiz Quary Quayamuddin.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Leishemba Sanajaoba, MP (Rajya Sabha), Y. Antas Khan, MLA Lilong AC, Er. Anwar Hussain, Chairman, MSMC, Md. Abdul Nasir, chairman WAKF Board, Manipur, MV. Abdul Salam, chairman, Haj Committee, MLA Y. Susindro, and ex-Speaker Dr Maniruddin Sheikh.
