Congress suspends Korungthang

Imphal: MLA D. Korungthang of Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency, who was also senior leader of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), has been suspended from the Congress party with immediate effect for anti-party activities and breach of discipline.

MPCC president Nameirakpam Loken declared this on Monday.

Loken said MPCC had encountered resignation letter of Korungthang which was submitted to Speaker Y. Khemchand on social media on Monday.

Resignation of Koruingthang is against the rules and regulations of the Congress party constitution, and for the act, MPCC decided to suspend him from the party, he added.

Korungthang was elected from Tengnoupal Assembly constituency in 2017 on Indian National Congress ticket.

Former National People’s Party MLA Letpao Haokip who was elected from Chandel Assembly Constituency recently announced that he will be contesting from Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency instead of Chandel Assembly Constituency. After his announcement Letpao had left NPP and joined Bharatiya Janata Party.
