63 packets opium found in truck


Imphal: Manipur Police has recovered 63 packets of opium from a truck in Bishnupur district on Friday and arrested the driver of the truck.

The drug packets were found in the truck, which bears registration number AS-01FC-0271, when detained during routine frisking and checking by teams of Bishnupur Police on suspicion near Bishnupur Forest office gate along Bishnupur Khoupum road.

On spot verification, the driver of the TATA truck identified himself as Langpoklakpam Kiran Singh, 29, son of late L. Sachi Singh of Torbung Bangla Maning Leikai. On searching of the vehicle, the opium packets of opium were recovered from the vehicle.

On weighing all the 63(sixty-three) packets, it weighs around 49.7 kilograms in total including the weight of the plastic packets, police said.

The above items were seized and the person was arrested after observing necessary formalities at 2.25 pm of the day.

The arrested person along with the seized items were handed over to Bishnupur Police station for further necessary action, the police source said.
