Imphal: Manipur Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president Chaltonlien Amo has joined Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday just on the next day of poll schedule announcement.
Chaltonlien Amo was working as election co-ordinator of Indian National Congress and was sitting MLA of 55-Tipaimukh (ST) elected on INC ticket in 2017 election.
He joined BJP at its state office here in presence of chief minister N. Biren Singhm state BJP president A. Sharda Devi, in-charge of Manipur election Bhupendra Yadav who is also union Cabinet minister of co-in-charge of Manipur election, Pratima Bhoumik who is also minister of state and co-in-charge of Manipur election, Ashok Singhal.
Yadav said BJP will win with 3/4 majority. For distribution of party tickets, BJP will give priority to every section including women intending candidates.
Biren said BJP welcome Chaltonlien Amo who was election co-ordinator of Congress party to BJP party. He said it will strengthen the BJP party in the tribal region and it is a good vision for the party to form a majority government in the coming election.
Central leaders of the party had seen the inconveniences and grievances faced during the past five years with the coalition government. To free from the inconveniences with the coalition government, a BJP government will come in the coming election, he added.
Chaltonlien Amo said he will be able to achieve many developmental projects in the coming government.
Sharda said joining of a heavyweight politician like Chaltonlien Amo indicated that public is satisfied witg the service of BJP.
