Manipur reports 206 fresh Covid-19 cases: We should not take it easy, says Biren


Imphal: Manipur daily Covid-19 positive cases have hit 206 mark on Wednesday at the positivity rate of 8.6 percent even as no Covid related fatality was reported in the state on this day.

Manipur chief minister N.Biren Singh terms the present surge in Covid-19 positive cases in the state as an alarming situation and said, “We should not take it easy.”

He said Omicron variant spreads faster than the Delta variant according to experts. So everyone need to wear mask and maintain SOP, he added.

Biren was interacting with reporters at his secretariat on Wednesday.

He said the ECI has also restricted election related rallies and meetings till January 15. “We have to obey it and even after that we have to be very careful, we should prevent from this deadly virus,” he added.

The fresh cases belonged to CAPF (66), Imphal East (22), Imphal West (72), Thoubal (4), Bishnupur (6), Kakching (3), Ukhrul (3), Senapati (2), Chandel (1) and Churachandpur (27).

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, state Covid-19 common control room said.

The cumulative number of deaths remained at 2012 and that of positive cases was 1,26,550.

Nine Covid-19 patients were recovered as on Wednesday report. The number of active cases was 736 and the recovery rate dropped to 97.83 percent.

As on Tuesday the cumulative vaccine doses administered was 2362921 (1st dose of 1348726, 2nd dose of 1012582 and precautionary dose of 1613).
