Imphal: Manipur’s Imphal East district police along with a column of 16 Assam Rifles and 15 Assam Rifles arrested three ‘active’ members of proscribed underground outfits of KCP (PWG) and one from a different proscribed underground outfit and has recovered monetary demand letters along with WY tablets and mobile phones at about 5 pm of Wednesday.
The arrested persons were identified as Wahengbam Ramananda Singh alias Rousow alias Luwangamba, 48, son of late W. Biren Singh of Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai, Imphal East; Soibam Inao Singh alias Bhim, 31, son of S. Sarat Singh of Wangoi Laiphrakpam Mayai Leikai, Imphal West; Sapam Mohon Singh alias Iboyaima, 52, son of S. Bheigya Singh of Tentha Khunou Bazaar, Thoubal district and Md Ayub Khan alias Khan alias Ijou, 46, son of Md Alauddin of Lilong Dam Makha, Thoubal district.
Superintendent of police, Imphal East, M. Pradip Singh told reporters on Thursday that they were arrested during massive counter insurgency operation in and around Heingang area on Wednesday.
He said during the operation Ramananda was arrested from Ahallup Makha Leikai near Lai-Haraopham ground at 6.45 pm and the combined team recovered three mobile phones from his possession.
He disclosed the police that ‘presently he is working under the command of one Kiran of KCP (PWG) through one Mohon of a different proscribed underground outfit’.
Pradip said from his disclosure two of his associates Inao and Mohon were also arrested from their respective residences at about 8.35 pm and 10.10 pm respectively of the same day. The combined team also seized two demand letters from the possession of Inao and 30 another demand letters from the possession of Mohon.
He said one of the associates, Ayub, was also arrested from his residence at about 11.40 pm of the same day and 240 WY tablets and one mobile phone was recovered and seized from his possession.
The arrested active members of the outfits are presently working under the commando of self-style finance secretary, Kiran of the same outfit. They were involved in the extortion of money from the general public, private firms, government employees, contractors and others for raising their party fund, the senior police officer said.
They further stated that they hurled hand grenades, plant explosives to the residences, offices and others who were refuse to give monetary demands, he added.
A case has been registered in Heingang police station and taken to police custody, he added.
