Manipur people celebrate Imoinu Iratpa festival


Imphal: People of Manipur especially the Meitei/Meeitei community on Friday celebrated Imoinu Iratpa festival in different parts of the state.

The festival is dedicated to the Manipuri goddess of wealth and prosperity ‘Imoinu Ahongbi’.

People offered rice, fish, vegetables and fruits to the Goddess who resides in the kitchen hall’s Funga Lairu (an open kiln).

Among many, Ningombam Angouton Memorial Trust in collaboration with Meeitei Shanglen Ngak Shenba Lup observed 13th Ima Imoinu Irat Thouni THouram-2022 at Wangkhei Thambalkhong Meeitei Marup, Meeitei Lampak in Imphal East.

President of the trust Ningombam Ibohal Meeitei said the festival has been celebrating since time immemorial to honour Goddess Imoinu.

People on this day pray for prosperity, peace and good health for their family as well as for the society.

At the community level celebration streets were decorated by festival organizers and hail the Goddess with rituals and music.

In the night lights were seen decorated in streets.

The festival, among other places, was celebrated at Wangkhei Pukhri and Yumnam Leikai at the community level.
