Public gathering restricted to 200 in open space, 50 in closed spaces


Imphal: With the rise in Covid-19 positive cases at high positive rate in Manipur, the state home department has restricted public gathering to a maximum of 50 persons in closed spaces and a maximum of 200 persons in case of open spaces.

Manipur on Friday reported 116 positive cases at the positivity rate of 7.1 percent. Six recovered persons were confirmed positive of Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Chief secretary Rajesh Kumar in an order issued on Saturday said the public gathering restriction was issued in view of the rapid increase in the ‘Test Positivity Ratio”, absolute number of Covid-19 positive case, per day and detection of Covid-19 variant B.1.1529 (Omicron) in the state.

It said people gathering of any activity is restricted to a maximum of 50 persons or half the capacity whichever is less in case of closed spaces and a maximum of 200 persons in case of open space

“Wearing of face masks in public places, gatherings and crowded areas is a critical Covid Appropriate Behaviour and it should be strictly enforced and violators to be penalised promptly under relevant rules,” the order said.

The state home department directed all district magistrates and superintendents of police to strictly enforce the restrictions.
