NRFM cadre involved in blast arrested


Imphal: An ‘active’ member of proscribed underground organisation National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NFRM) who is also a transgender directly involved in recent bomb blast occurred at a pharmacy of Khurai Lamlong, Khurai Telepati, Kairang Muslim arrested from Khurai Heikrumakhong on Sunday.

The arrested person was identified as one Hourongbam Yohenba Meitei alias Tamo alias John, 30, son of Sunil Meitei of Chalou Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district.

Superintendent of police, Imphal East, M. Pradip Singh told reporters on Monday that he was arrested by a combined team of district commando, Imphal East; a team of Heingang police station along with a column of 15 Assam Rifles during random frisking and checking ahead of the coming republic day celebration at Khurai Heikrumakhong at about 2.30 pm on Sunday.

He said Yohenba is directly involved in extortion of money and recent bomb blast at various areas of Imphal East district including bomb blast occurred at a pharmacy of Khurai Lamlong, Khurai Telepati and Kairang Muslim.

On the disclosure of the arrested person, Pradip said, on the advice of one self-style chairman of the said proscribed underground organisation, Dabalmacha along with Naoba of the same organisation planted improvise explosive devices (IEDs) at Khhurai Telepati, Lamlong bazar (a pharmacy) and Kairang Muslim. The arrested person also disclosed that he made monetary demand for a sum of Rs 10,00,000 to one pharmacy located at Sawombung Primary Health Centre gate, he added.

He said the extortion note of the outfit was duly signed by one self-style secretary finance of the same underground organisation, Nongpoknganba Meitei, Central Head Quarter (NFRM), and the extortion note was delivered to the pharmacy by the arrested person.

Police collected the extortion note from the pharmacy on the production of one Haobam Santosh Singh, 25, son of H. Sanjit Singh of Itham Nungoi, Imphal East, C/o M/s Shyam Pharmacy, Sawombung PHC gate at 3.20 pm on Sunday.

On further examination the arrestee said he kept conceal two hand grenades a the top of the hill of Pidonu Ching near the Ima Pidonu temple.

The combined team immediately rushed to the said location and seized the two hand grenades which was buried near the temple.

A case has been registered at Heingang police station and after produced in front of concerned court he has been remanded for five days police custody.
