Manipur governor appeals to avoid poll violence

Imphal: Manipur governor La Ganesan has appealed all concerned

to avoid any kind of violent activities so as to enable the people to exercise their franchise freely and fairly in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.

The elections are scheduled to be held in two phases — on February 28 and March 5.

“I am very much in favour of smooth and peaceful passing off the election process without any major untoward incident,” the governor said.

In order to enable the general public to participate in this very important democratic process and exercise their right of franchise freely and fairly, abstaining/avoiding from/of any type of violent acts is indispensable at this critical juncture, he said he sincerely appeal to all the citizens of the state to exercise their democratic franchise with free and without fear as this right will determine the destiny of the people in the coming five years.

Ganesan said, “I am quite optimistic that every organisation will co-operate in this democratic process of the state.”
