Bomb blast at former BJP chief spokesperson Bijoy’s gate

Imphal: Miscreants attacked with bomb at the residential gate of former Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur chief spokesperson Ch. Bijoy at around 6.37 pm located at Lamphel near Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) on Friday.

Bijoy said he along with two of his junior colleagues Indramani and Kishan Keisham were chatting. They heard the blast sound. At first it seems to be a sound of cracker bomb however when they went out and enquired, they saw the damage of the blast, he added.

As per CCTV camera footage two unknown persons with face mask came from the norther side of Bijoy’s residence in a scooter without registration plate. After some minutes one of them lit up the bomb and placed it at the 2nd residential gate of Bijoy. After they placed the bomb both of them fled towards the eastern side.

Bijoy said he does not understand for what the bomb attack was. “I do not have any enmity with anyone. Might be, ahead of Phase I election he frequently came on media and conduct press conference regarding the ongoing election. Maybe it was a political threat to silent me.”

A team of Imphal West district commando and a team of Lamphel Police rushed to the spot. Police reported that they could find any splinter and no damage occurred during the blast. Police recovered little amount of suspected gelatine gel, some paper used to wrap the bomb and some firing cable.

No causality was reported. A case has been registered at Lamphel police station.
