Garbage piles in Imphal city

Imphal: Garbage were found piled up in front of shops along the Thangal Bazar street leading to Khwairamband Ima Keithel and its nearby areas.

“There has been no garbage removal service for many days, since the state election eve,” a shopkeeper said. There are private and government services for the purpose. The high paid private service vehicle too failed to provide its service, he added.

He said the private service takes Rs 100 for one day when it collects the garbage.

If there are problems to clean up the garbage the authority should let people know in advance so that people would take care in reducing the volume of garbage piles, a passerby along the city street said.

This part of the city street, reconstructed and beautified in Thangal Bazar, was recently inaugurated ahead of the Manipur Legislative Assembly election. Due to Lai Haraoba celebration at Lamdeng in Imphal West garbage cannot be dumped at the Lamdeng dumping waste dumping site for ten days, a garbage vehicle driver from Thangmeiband said. He said the festival will conclude on Thursday.
