Biren instructs to nab those who set ablaze musical instruments

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Saturday said he had instructed the police department to arrest those involved in burning down of musical instruments by a group of student bodies’ volunteers on Friday in Imphal West.

“It is very unfortunate to learn about the burning down of equipments belonging to artists by some members of an organisation. The government will not tolerate such shameful act,” Biren said.

“I urge these organisations to stop acting like a parallel government immediately. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome but we will not allow any such act of dictating the public,” he added.

The Imphal West district administration decided not to entertain any permission for ‘Thabal Chongba’ or Shumang Leela as a part of the Yaoshang festival celebration till the completion of the Manipur Board and Council examinations for Class X, XI and XII, an official order said.

The order was issued after considering that gatherings of people and noises created by organising events, specially in the evening and in furthermore in residential areas may cause disturbance to the students preparing for the upcoming examinations, the district magistrate of Imphal West stated.

Section 144 of Cr.P.C. has been imposed in the whole area situated within revenue district of Imphal West district, vide CRIL. MISC CASE NO. 4 of 2022 dated March 23, taking into consideration the likelihood of serious breach of peace and disturbance to the public tranquility, the order said.

The state government bans organpnising of Shumang Leela and concerts in residential areas after 7 pm till the completion of the examinations.

No road should be closed or diverted for any of the above mentioned purposes, the order said.
