Cross border smuggling of teak wood foiled

Imphal: Shangshak battalion of Assam Rifles under aegis of IGAR (South) of Spear Corps foiled cross border smuggling of teak wood in Punamram in Kamjong, Manipur on Thursday.
“Security forces intercepted 30 trucks in Punamram area carrying smuggled teakwood from Myanmar. 17 traffickers were apprehended and 30 trucks seized in the operation. The teak wood seized was assessed to be worth Rs 22.08 crore,” the Assam Rifles said on Saturday.
The seized teak wood along with apprehended smugglers and seized vehicles were handed over to Range officer, forest cepartment Kasom Khullen for further legal action, it added.
