Brown Sugar trafficker falls in police hand

Imphal: Narcotic Cell of Jiribam Police on Saturday late evening apprehended a person who was ferrying Brown Sugar along NH-37 at Leingangpokpi village near the office of the Driver’s Union, Jiribam.
A team of the narcotic cell was conducting routine frisking and checking of vehicles plying along the highway as a part of Manipur government’s War on Drugs 2.0 at around 11.30 pm.
Jiribam Police superintendent Ksh. Ravikumar Singh said during the routine duty one Toyota Innova, white in colour, coming from Imphal side towards Jiribam, bearing registration number AS 01 AW – 9570 was stopped for checking.
On verification the driver identified himself as Md. Azamir, 26, son of Md. Azman of Sora Mamang Mayai Leikai, Kakching. The team when searched and checked the vehicle in presence of Ak. Sadananda Singh additional SP (ops) Jiribam, 25 of soap caps containing suspected Brown Sugar wrapped with green colour polythene bag each were found inside the skimmed fuel tank of the vehicle.
Total weight of the suspected brown sugar is 316.62 gm excluding soap cases, the seniorpolice officer said.
The drug along with the vehicle and one mobile handset Vivo Y73 with one Airtel SIM card were seized brought to Jiribam Police station for observing formalities. The accused person was also arrested, he added,

He said a team of Imphal West Commando and Wangoi Police station arrested one Md Pitru, Miss Sakina and N. Sanathoi along with 24 plastic vile of suspected Heroin powder weighing about 23 gm, 320 empty plastic vile and Rs 90,000 in cash which is suspected to be proceeds of selling the narcotic items.
A team of I/E police arrested one person called Vareithing Kasom along with 4 soap cases of Heroin powder, weighing about 103gm at the Eastern side of Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi Thong. In addition, another team arrested one person called Md Altaf along with three soap cases and 94 plastic vials of Heroin powder weighing 63 gm he writes.
“Since the day of forming the new government, we have been able to seized narcotics drugs worth over Rs 15 crore,” Biren said.
