Imphal: The decision of central leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reduce the area under Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from the entire north eastern region is an example that the central government is concerned for the people of north eastern region including Manipur.
Manipur agriculture minister Thongam Biswajit Singh said this while interacting with reporters on the sideline of his visit to State Mechanised Farm (SMF) complex of district agriculture office, Lamphelpat on Thursday.
“ASPA was not included as a part of election campaign of BJP. However, central leaders are aware that it is a long term demand for the people of the north eastern region including Manipur,” Biswajit said.
The central leaders made the decision after witnessing the present situation of law and order which is getting better as compared with previous years, he added.
Biswajit said during his tenure as agriculture minister he will try his level best not to occur the fertilizer issue that had been occurring in most of the seasons. It is heard that with the coming of Kharif season crop some of the farmers have started demanding fertilizer. To bring a better crop yield for both Kharif and Rabi adequate fertilizers will be made available, he added.
