Opium, cash seized


Imphal: A team of Manipur state special commando unit seized 9.07 kg of opium along with Rs 73,500 (cash) from a drug peddler at Lamlai Chingphei, Ukhrul district near Presbyterian Church on Monday evening.

The drug peddler was identified as one Thangminlen Baite, 34, son of Khaipao Baite of Lamlai Chingphei, Ukhrul district.

The drug was detected during frisking and checking conducted at the said area by the special commando team led by officer-in-charge, special commando unit L. Bebekananda Singh under the supervision of superintendent of police of the same unit, Th. Krishnatombi Singh.

During the police activity Thangminlen was detained under suspicion at around 6.30 pm of the same day by the police team. On examination the opium were detected packed in nine different plastic packets.

One mobile phone was also seized from his possession in presence of independent witness.

After observing formalities the person along with the seizures have been handed to Lamphel police station for further necessary actions.

A case has been registered at Lamphel police station in connection with the incident.
