Rs 13 crore Brown Sugar seized

Imphal: Tengnoupal Police of Manipur have seized suspected brown sugar worth over Rs 13 Crores in three different seizures on Tuesday.

The first seizure took place at 1 pm. A total of 52 soap cases of suspected brown sugar weighing 2.121 kg, valued at about Rs 4,24,20,000 were seized from one W. Mathuhema, 21, of Senapati district.

The second seizure occurredat 2:30 pm. A total of 55 soap cases of suspected brown sugar weighing 2.293 kg, valued at about Rs 4,58,60,000 were seized from one H. Wilson, 22, and Solomon, 31, of Senapati district. The operation was jointly conducted by Tengnoupal Police and 20 Assam Rifles.

The third seizure took place at 4 pm. A total of 53 soap cases of suspected brown sugar weighing 2.194 kg, valued at about Rs.4,38,80,000 were seized from one Peter Hemkhomang Baite, 26, of Moreh Ward No 1.

The total value of the seized drugs calculated as per NCB norms was approximately Rs.13,21,60,000. Three different FIRs have been registered at Tengnoupal Police station.

Highlighting this as massive seizure of drugs under ‘War on Drugs 2.0’ chief minister N. Biren Singh, on his Facebook post, said a cash reward was also handed over to the team.
