Paona Bazar shops shut down over parking issue


Imphal: Shops at Paona Bazar in Imphal city have shut down since Wednesday protesting against the order issued by the government on Tuesday prohibiting parking of vehicles ar Paona Bazar.

The shopkeepers began their shop shut down protest since Wednesday 3 pm.

Shopkeepers in Paona Bazar say they cannot accept the government’s order of barring parking of vehicles in the market.

They demad the government to arrange alternative measures as that of Thangal Bazar, wherein the parking space has been set up at Naga River.

In the past the government provided the road between Johnstone Higher Secondary school and Mapal Kangjeibung as parking place.

Parking should be allowed at Paona Bazar roads until an arrangement is made, the shopkeepers demand.

” At least the buyers should be allowed to park their vehicles for some minutes to buy goods from their shop,” a shopkeeper said.

“Shopkeepers need not worry for the public, we will walk to shops,” a Thangmeiband resident said.

“The demand may be for parking advantage of shopkeepers and shop owners,” another Imphal resident said.
