Imphal: While as chief minister N. Biren Singh endeavours to conserve the paddy land of Manipur and to protect them, some paddy fields at Kairang Loukol paddy field within Heingang Assembly Constituency were found laying earth allegedly for house construction.
Biren, who belongs to Heingang Assembly Constituency, warned encroachers to stop construction of structures on paddy fields, during his reception ceremony held at Lainingthou Puthiba ground, Yumnam Khunou, Imphal East.
President of LOUSAL (Loumee Shinmee Apunba Lup) a farmers’ organisation Mutum Churamani said it is unfortunate that some people of Kairang started putting foundation earth in the middle of “Phouren Loukol” (most fertile paddy farm).
Churamani during a field visit along with locals of Kairang on Saturday witnessed that some paddy fields of Kairang loukol (paddy field) were seen laying earth for structure construction.
Biren had earlier expressed to conserve the paddy land of Manipur and to protect them, Manipur Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 will made function effectively and that will be a part of 100 days programme of new BJP government.
Despite the chief minister’s stand to strengthen the Act number of construction has been increasing at Kairang Loukol, which is the chief minister’s constituency, Churamani said.
Drawing the attention of the chief minister, Churamani said the government should look into the matter seriously before strengthening the Act.
Churamani appealed the government to evict those structures constructed on the paddy field of Kairang paddy field as a part of the 100 days programme of the new government.
Biren had said people should avoid illegal land encroachment as the government is going to continue drive against illegal land encroachment in the entire Manipur including the surroundings of Loktak lake area.
Land encroachers who construct illegal structures on the paddy field will be booked if they fails to remove the structures immediately. The government is conducting land eviction drive only for the illegal land encroachers, if the government is going to evict patta land then government will serve notice in advance with proper land compensation amount, Biren said.
