Imphal: All Manipur Quarry Association (AMQA) has warned to launch intensive agitation ‘if state government fails to allow the quarry works for local quarry workers while some of the national private companies are continuing the quarry works by April 15’.
AMQA president Moirangthem Mangoljao told reporters at the campus of state commerce and industry department on Monday that local quarry workers are banned from getting quarry from rivers under the direction of High Court of Manipur. However, some of national private companies including GR Infra, Abantika, Railway projects, Keystone and others are still continuing quarry works from the quarry sites of Sekmai and others.
The authority concerned should allow the local quarry workers to get quarry from the site like other national private companies, he demanded.
The government has released the machineries of local quarries seized by the state government unconditionally, he added.
Apunba Nupi Sinnmi Lup president Oinam Yumchangbi said the locals quarries are banned from getting quarry whereas in front of them the national private companies are allow to take quarry. When she enquired, they were told by national companies that they are allow by chief minister for state development works.
The local quarry workers are surviving their families and should allow the local quarries to get quarry from the site, she added.
Apunba Nupi Sinnmi Lup will support AMQA if the government and authority concerned fails to meet the demand within the deadline, Yumchangbi, said.
