Khemchand conducts cleanliness drive along Nambul River


Imphal: MAHUD minister Y. Khemchand on Saturday conducted cleanliness drive along Nambul River stretch Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai in Imphal West.

The cleanliness drive was organised in connection with  42nd foundation day celebration of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under Samajik Nyay Pakhwada.

Khemchand said as a part of the celebration of BJP foundation day to be celebrated from April 7 to 20, the state government has been taking various initiatives. As a part of the initiatives cleanliness drive is also taking in and around Imphal city area.

It is necessary to clean the garbage piled up at the river bank as with the coming of monsoon season there is a possibility that the garbage piled along the river bank of the Nambul river could float down towards Loktak which could lead to pollution of Loktak lake, he added.

The minister said he will monitor the the surrounding locality in Imphal Municipal Corporation area in to collect the garbage.

He interacted with the local representatives of Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai and urged them to cooperate with the municipality while cleaning the garbage for a clean Imphal city and its surroundings.

Caretaker of Imphal Municipal Corporation, L. Lokeshwor; state vice-president, BJP, Ch. Chidananda and president BJP Imphal West, Phoni Meitei attended during the drive.
