Imphal: An oil tanker truck on Sunday evening knocked down a pedestrian (man) to death at Sangakpham Bazaar in front of “Imoinu Chak Hotel” while proceeding towards Imphal city from Koirengei side.
Police found the soulless body at Sangakpham Bazaar in front of “Imoinu Chak Hotel” and the body was kept at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences morgue for identification.
According to Heingang police station, it got an information at around 6.15 of pm of Sunday that one unknown male pedestrian was nocked down by one Tata Oil tanker bearing registration number MN01AA 0557 at Sangakpham Bazaar in front of “Imoinu Chak Hotel” while procedding towards Imphal from Koirengei side.
During the incident the pedestrian succumbed at the spot due to his injuries. A case has been registered at Heingang Police station for investigation, Heingang Police said.
The body wore one full shirt stripped with white, red, grey and black colour with white vest; the body wore a jeans long pant (dark grey) along with one belt red in colour; one cap blue in colour; one leather sleeper purple in colour; one neckless (urik); the body has normal complexion (Kulei-Kuchu); found perforated hole in ears and the body has a height about 5 feet 2 inch – 5 feet 5 inch.
Later on Monday evening the victim was identified as one Hidangmayum Shyamsundar Sharma, son of late H. Bishambor Sharma of Lairikyengbam Awang Leikai, Imphal East.
The body is still at JNIMS morgue and autopsy will likely to be conducted on Wednesday, police said.
The police press note released on Monday failed to state if the driver was arrested.
