Imphal: Table Top Exercise for State Level Mock Exercise on Earthquake Scenario was conducted at the conference hall of Old Secretariat, Babupara, Imphal West, on Tuesday.
The aim of the mock exercise was to check preparedness for a eathquake disaster at state level and to give awareness to the people about the how to manage and response at the time of earthquake occurs.
Police, army, paramilitary forces, medical departments, electricity department, Assam Rifles, district administrations etc. were trained in order to assess response of the earthquake disaster situation.
The table top mock exercise based on earthquake scenarios was jointly conducted in collaboration with the Manipur State Disaster Management Authority and National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi.
Consultant, National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi, Maj. Gen. Sudhir Bahl, (Retd) said the mock exercise has been conducted jointly with Manipur Sate Disaster Management Authority to take care of earthquake disaster that happen in the state of Manipur.
“We have discussed various scenarios, what the representatives are learning today will actually execute physically on April 21. Manipur which falls in seismic Zone V, is the second state where such mock exercise is being conducted after more than two years and the State work hard towards this important part of disaster preparedness. He also asked the people to prepare for saving lives and economic assets from earthquake disaster,” consultant, National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi, Maj. Gen. Sudhir Bahl, (Retd) said.
For Imphal East, the mock exercise will be conducted at JNIMS Hospital and for Imphal West at CIPET building, Takyelpat, Imphal. On this day mock exercise on earthquake will also be organized at DC complex of Thoubal and Bishnupur respectively, he added.
Additional chief secretary, Relief and Disaster Management M.H Khan said the training mock exercise was held to give awareness in relation to the preparedness of disaster. All government functionaries, volunteers, officials were trained on how to take precautionary measures and handling things at the time of earthquake disaster.
All district officials were trained recently and an Incident Response System was also formed. Deputy commissioners of each district will be the commander with many sections under him/her. They all get ready and knew what their roles in connection with earthquake disaster, he added.
The representatives were also briefed about their preparedness and roles taken up in their concerned areas.
During the exercise, evaluation on the preparedness of the concern district was carried out and also gave awareness to the participants based on National Disaster Management guidelines.
In technical session, discussion was held with the participants highlighting the role and responsibilities of the stakeholders for the mock exercise.
