Davis Cup Junior champ Bushan accorded grand reception

Imphal: Bushan Haobam, a budding tennis player of Manipur, who is a member of Indian tennis squad which won the Davis Cup Junior Asia – Oceania Zone, 2022 in New Delhi recently, has been accorded a grand reception in Imphal 9n Saturday.

The reception ceremony was organised by the Imphal District Tennis Association in its complex at Lamphelpat.

Youth affairs and sports minister Govindas Konthoujam praised the achievements of Bushan at the international circuit in such a tender age and promised to reward him a cash incentive of Rs 5 lakh.

He also encouraged the youths of the state to emulate the feat of Bushan.

An ecstatic and overjoyed Bushan narrated about his struggle, hard work and maiden international success during the reception function. Yambem Leelenje who groomed up Bushan in his initial years as coach also pointed out the unique talent and great potential the local lad has in store.

On his arrival at Imphal Airport, Bushan was given a rousing welcome with garlands by his family members, fans and hundreds of local tennis players.

The Tennis Association of India selected Bushan as member of Indian Junior Team for the Asia Oceania Qualifying Zone Junior Davis Cup 2022 and Junior Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Competition.

With the recent success, Bushan and his Indian teammates have qualified for World Group Junior Davis Cup under 16 boys’ tennis tournament.
