Pradhans appeals to allow transporters to get quarry products, sand legally

Imphal: Pradhan of Waiton Gram Panchayat, Pukhrambam Surbala Devi as representative of CD Block, Sawombung urged the state government to allow the transporters to get quarry products and sand legally to push development under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

Surbala told reporters at the office of CD Block, Sawombung on Thursday that the state Cabinet has recently removed the restriction to get quarry products and sand from its respective site. However, transporters denied to get them from the site as concerned officials take huge tax from the transporters. It was also told that industry department ban to get quarry and sand from the different sites, she added.

Surbala said under MGNREGA and 15th Finance commission development works are to be done. But due to the restriction on transporters, the pradhans are not able to work for the welfare of the people.

She appealed the state government to allow the transporters to get quarry products and sand from different sites which are legally allowed by the state government.
