‘Woman needs to know self-defence’

Imphal: With the completion of five years of teaching self-defense technique to safeguard women and girls against women violence and crime, president Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lup Manipur, Dr S. Bhagyabati Devi who is also former head of department of medicine, RIMS stands to continue “Defense Yourself” teaching campaign at her residence for free of cost.
Bhagyabati started teaching self-defense technique to women and to school, college going girls under the “Defense Yourself” campaign since March 31, 2017 after Nirvaya Rape case was occurred.
A press note issued by Dr Bhagyabati Devi said, under the campaign she has been teaching defense technique at different schools and colleges including individuals. During the campaign despite of giving self defense technique to person living with HIV especially women, she also had been giving care counselling including rape victims and many of them has been brought to normal life.
It said, despite strict law for rapist and on women violence, the crime had been increasing rapidly. To defend from such crime including rape, it is necessary for women and girls to aware the knowledge of self defense.
To provide the knowledge under the campaign “Defense Yourself”, Bhagyapati will be continuing to teach the technique and care counselling at her residence located at Singjamei Mathak Chongtham Leikai, Imphal West opposite of Gold Gym.
By getting the knowledge of self-defence, women and girls could be prevented form becoming victim, it added.
