AR foils cross border smuggling of contrabands worth Rs 4 crore in Manipur

Imphal: In two separate operations, Churachandpur and Tengnoupal battalions of Assam Rifles (AR)under the agies of IGAR (South) foiled cross border smuggling of narcotics and timber in Churachandpur and Tengnoupal District on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a drug peddler at Selshi village, Churachandpur and recovered 350 gm of narcotic. The seized narcotic was assessed to be worth Rs 1.40 crore, the AR said.

In another operation, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted two trucks carrying illegal timber at Kulyang village, Tengnoupal. The siezed timber was assessed to be worth Rs 2.60 crore.

The siezed contraband along with the apprehended traffickers were handed over to Churachandpur Police and forest department, Tengnoupal for further investigation, the paramilitary force said.
