Cop arrested with over Rs 31 crore worth Heroin in Manipur

Imphal: Kangpokpi Police of Manipur has arrested a head constable of Manipur Police and two associates in connection with ferrying of Heroin worth Rs 31.80 crore in the international market, on National Highway-2.

The Heroin was found concealed in 212 soap cases in car (Honda City, maroon) bearing no registration number number. It weighed around 2.131 kg.

On learning about the possibility of transporting narcotics along Imphal-Dimapur route, carried out a frisking drive under the supervision of Kangpokpi superintendent of police Amrita Sinha on Monday.

During the frisking, the car was stopped and detained for verification at around 1.30 pm. The car was driven by Solensei Haokip, 23, son of Thanglun Haokip of G Khonom village with Jamgoulen Haokip, 21, son of Letthang Haokip of Kingkin village, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi Police said on Wednesday.

On preliminary interrogation of the two persons, they admit themselves to be drug peddlers trafficking illicit drugs along National Highway-2 and confessed possession of suspected drugs in their vehicle.

The vehicle was duly searched in the presence of Puyam Rahuldev Singh, SDC(HQ), DC Office Kangpokpi and independent witness of KTC and KYU, Kangpokpi which leads to the recovery of the containing suspected Heroine No. 4.

The car and recovered articles were seized. The duo were arrested.

On their revelation, they obtained the suspected Heroin No. 4 from  Luminthang Haokip alias Mimin Taqchapa, 33, son of late Holkholet Haokip of Kholmun village Churachandpur District serving as Head Constable at Manipur Police department.

The head constable was arrested on Tuesday and also seized one unregistered Mahindra Thar vehicle (dark gray in colour) and one Mobile Phone from his possession at his residence. In this regard, a regular case under NDPS Act has been registered for investigation.

Kangpokpi District Police said it will standfastly stand on the “War against Drugs” and vill continue to worked in earnest to stop drug trafficking. It appeals to the People of Kangpokpi district to co-operate and help in the “War against drugs”.
