Manipur tourism all set to launch Shirui Lily Festival


Imphal: Manipur tourism department, after a gap of two years of Covid pandemic, is all set to begin Shirui Lily Festival on Wednesday in Ukhrul district where the Shirui Lily, the state flower blossoms.

The 4-day tourism festival will begin at Shirui village with governor La Ganesan and chief minister N. Biren Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.

Bakshi ground will be the venue for Shirock concert which will witness British progressive metal band ‘Monuments. Various bands from across the country are also in fray for the Shirock title, according to tourism department.

During the festival there will be exhibition football matches at TNL ground.

There will be demonstrations of endangered Haofa, indigenous Tangkhul canine breed also known as Tangkhul Hui and their significance in the Tangkhul society as a special attraction of the festival.

Adventure sports like downhill, mountain biking will be organised in the festival.

On the opening day there will be Trumpeting of the Festival by Guru Rewben Mashangva, NEZCC Awardee, Invocation by Rev. Dr Ringphami K Kashung

There will be special performance by Featherheads, a choreography by Ha Hei Shirui Kashong – Phalee Shanao Long and cultural dance by Poumai Dance Troupe.

The closing ceremony of the festival will be held at Bakshi Ground with Biren and minister Khashim Vashum (animal husbandry and veterinary and transport) as chief guest and president respectively.
