Assam Rifles foils cross border smuggling of Brown Sugar in Manipur


Imphal: Tengnoupal and Chassad battalions under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled cross border smuggling of narcotics in Tengnoupal and Kamjong district on Tuesday.

During routine checking of vehicles at Khudengthabi, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a two wheeler. On thorough search of the vehicle, 612 gm of brown sugar in 15 soap cases concealed inside the vehicle were recovered. The recovered narcotics were assessed to be worth Rs 1.22 crores, the Assam Rifles said on Wednesday.

​In another intelligence based operation on the same day, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a drug peddler near Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district. 52 gm of brown sugar and burmese currency were recovered from the drug peddler. The recovered narcotics were assessed to be worth over Rs 1 lakh.

The recovered items along with the drug peddlers were handed over to Moreh and Chassad Police stations for further investigation, the paramilitary force said.
