Imphal: Kakching Police of Manipur on Wednesday apprehended a drug trafficker from Sugnu Wapokpi area, in continuation of Manipur government’s 2nd edition of War on Drugs.
A total of 293 gm of Heroin powder was seized from the drug peddler identified as Wangkhem Sarkar Meitei, 47, son of late Th. Maimu, resident of Wapokpi Chingol Leikai, Kakching district.
Following an information recieved at around 4.30 pm of the day a team of led by officer-in-charge, Sugnu Police station B Lunthang Vaiphei and women police conducted surveillance and patrolling in Sugnu Wapokpi area.
During the police activity one vehicle was seen approaching the area. Seeing the police team, the car drove faster to escape. The police teams pursued and tried to get the car. After more than 30 minute of hot pursuit, the car was seen entering an unknown house in the locality. After five minutes the police team arrived and cordoned the suspected residential area. In that one Santro car bearing registration number MN02 G 0437 was found parked at the house premises of Wangkhem Sarkar Meitei, a police report said.
Search started in the house in presence of two civil witnesses. Twenty-two green soap cases containing suspected Heroin powder weighing around 293 gm was found under the foot pads of the car.
The police team seized the drugs by observing formalities. Sarkar who is also the owner of the house was arrested. He along with the seizures have been handed over to Sugnu police station for further necessary action, the police report said.
