Imphal: Multiple teams of Special police commando and 43 Assam Rifles on Thursday recovered 2. 273 kg Brown Sugar ferrying in a Saktiman truck along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur.
The security forces under the supervision of Chandel district superintendent of police Pandey Hemant and superintendent of police railway in-charge Th. Krishnatombi Singh detected the Brown Sugar at the back of the seat of a Saktiman truck. The drug was packed in 186 soap cases.
The drug would worth Rs 4, 54, 60, 000 in the international market, police said.
The security teams were conducting joint patrol along the Indo-Myanmar border to thwart the illegal infiltration and to conduct War on Drugs.
While patrolling one column passed the information regarding movement of drugs in a truck along the border. However, the vehicle by-passed the joint patrolling party through an alternate route. Subsequently backup parties were alerted, which were placed near Chakpikarong and accordingly Chakpikarong Police personnel and Special commando personnel stopped the vehicle and detained, the police said.
The persons in the truck identified themselves as Seitinthang Haokip, 22, son of Thangkhongam Haokip of Molcham Village Chandel district, Ngamminlun Guite, 25, son of Tonminthang Guite of Yangoubung village, Tengnoupal district, Seiminlun Guite, 24, son of Themsei Guite of Yangoubung village, Tengnoupal district, and Doukhosei mate, 35, son of Holkhothang mate of Champol village, Chandel district. A 16 years old boy of Yangoubung village Tengnoupal district was with them.
The security teams found Rs 49, 620 and five mobile phones from their possession.
The arrested accused personnel and the seized item were handed over to Chakpikarong Police station for further necessary legal action, the police said.
