Give capital punishment to Mark T Haokip: 10 organisations


Imphal: Ten civil organisations have demanded to give capital punishment to Mark Thangmang Haokip for claiming freedom fighters of Manipur Rani Gaidinliu as criminal.

International Peace and Social Advancement, The All Club Organisation Association and Meira Paibi Lup, People’s Action for National Democratic Movement, Indigenous People’s Association of Kangleipak, KANGLAME, Kabui Mothers’ Association (KAMA), Kanglei Ima Lup, Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak and Zeliangrong Union made the demand on Friday.

General secretary of KAMA Ranjita Golmei told reporters at its office here said, “Mark do not have any knowledge of Manipur history. He is not a Manipuri and he claimed through social media that Manipur freedom fighter, Rani Gaidinliu is a criminal but not a freedom fighter.”

He uploaded in social media addressing to Union home minister Amit Shah on November, 2021. In follow up action against his post, 10 local civil bodies filed an FIR at Imphal Police station on November 28 demanding to arrest Mark, Ranjita said.

Since then he has been at large however under the instruction of chief minister N. Biren Singh, Mark T Haokip was arrested from New Delhi on Tuesday, she said.

The 10 local civil appreciated Biren Singh for his action.

Ranjita said such person should be given capital punishment, if the government let him free then he would criticised Hijam Irabot and Bir Tikendrajit as criminals in future.

The organisations cautioned stringent form of agitation if the government fails to take necessary action against Mark with capital punishment.
