Blast kills 1, injures 4 in Manipur


Imphal: One person succumbed and four injured when a bomb suspected to be an IED exploded inside the Community Hall at Sapam Mayai Leikai, Khongjom in Thoubal district of Manipur on Monday afternoon.

Five of them were engaged by water tank construction companies Koya and GCKC.

Due to the blast, five persons got injured and were immediately evacuated to Thoubal Hospital where one individual succumbed to his injury, a police report said.

The deceased person was identified as Pankaj Mahato, 21, son of Nirmal Mahato from Khariatabad, West Bengal.

The four injured persons were Aroop Mandal, 30, son of Balram Mandal, South 24 Pargana district, West Bengal; Souvik Patra, 18, son of Babloo Patra from North 24 Parganas, West Bengal; Aporva Mandal, 25, son of Samapado Mandal from South 24 Parganas; and Rajesh Ramaanik, 19, son of Krishno Ramanik.

The spot is kept cordoned for forensic inspection and a case has been registered at Khongjom Police station for further necessary action,  police said.
