Political instability in Myanmar delays Act East policy works: RK Ranjan


Imphal: Due to the present political instability in Myanmar, India government is delaying in completion of necessary developmental works under Act East policy, Union minister of external affairs RK Ranjan said on Monday.

The minister was addressing reporters at his Imphal East residence.

India government wanted to complete the developmental work immediately. However with the political instability in Myanmar the 69 bridge to be constructed under Act East policy remained delayed, Ranjan said.

India and Myanmar are trying to bring a political settlement as there are no issue beyond Myanmar border, he added.

Most of the people settling in the Indo-Myanmar are of same ethnic community. To identify and to avoid of illegal influx the state government is trying to introduce identity cards for the people inhabitant in border area including the introduction of ‘border hut’,  Ranjan said.

He appealed the people settling in the border area to cooperate while the government in preventing the illegal influx.

He said as a part of the observation of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be interacting with the beneficiaries of 16 different government schemes for nine different departments on Tuesday.

During the interaction the beneficiaries will be given the opportunity to give feedback regarding the various government welfare schemes to the Prime Minister, he added.
